1. June 27, 2009 - The Cannery
The cannery costs the taxpayers $50,000 a year to serve less than 100 people.
Don’t get me wrong, I grew up eating food from my father’s garden that my mother and grandmother “put up” as they called it then. But they both did this in their own kitchens.
It seems most of our Commissioners shy away from any decision that offends someone, that’s part of the reason we are in the state we are in as a County.
Why not let the people who use the cannery form a 501C nonprofit organization, get their own insurance and then have the County lease the cannery to them for one dollar a year.
Many citizens don't even seem to know the cannery exists, so it should be promoted to the citizens of the County to increase awareness and utilization which would increase revenue from the small usage fee that is being collected and help make it more cost effective.
