Florida player facing criminal charges

ORLANDO, Fla., May 9 (UPI) -- University of Florida defensive back Jamar Hornsby faces several criminal charges for allegedly using a dead student's credit card.

The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported that Hornsby was arrested Friday morning at the Alachua County Jail on charges of credit card theft, a misdemeanor, and felony fraudulent use of a credit card.

The report said he used the credit card more than 70 times.

Alachua County court records show more than $2,800 worth of merchandise throughout the state was charged to the BP credit card of former UF student Ashley Slonina.

She was killed in an October motorcycle accident that also killed Hornsby's former Gator teammate, Michael Guilford.

Earlier this week, Slonina's father, James, submitted a sworn complaint in which he said that Hornsby was at his daughter's Gainesville residence, helping to clear her items on the day or the day after her death.

Coach Urban Meyer was not available for comment.
