U.K. 'Apprentice' host accused of bullying

LIVERPOOL, England, May 9 (UPI) -- Liverpool lawyer Rex Makin has accused Alan Sugar, host of the British version of "The Apprentice," of crossing a line by ribbing a Jewish contestant on air.

Sugar demanded to know why "Apprentice" wannabe Michael Sophocles said on his resume he was "a good Jewish boy," when he couldn't explain what "kosher" meant.

"In your CV, the first thing you wrote on it is 'I'm a good Jewish boy,' is this right? If you are unsure, we can always pull your trousers down and check," Sugar said on the show Wednesday.

The Liverpool Daily Post said Makin has complained that Sugar, who is Jewish, went too far when he suggested Sophocles pull his pants down to reveal whether he had been circumcised.

Makin said the move was tantamount to "bullying."
