Fisher aims for European Open title

LONDON, July 5 (UPI) -- England's Ross Fisher shot 3-under-par 69 Saturday to bump his lead to three strokes after 54 holes at the European Open golf tournament.

With a three-round total of 16-under 200, Fisher will attempt to win the event wire-to-wire in Sunday's closing round. He opened with a 9-under 63 Thursday.

Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell holds second place heading into the final 18 holes at Kent, England's London Golf Club. After shooting 1-under 71, McDowell is within earshot at 13-under 203.

South Africa's David Frost (69) is third at 10-under 203, with three players at 8-under 208 to share fourth.

Fisher was the lone golfer to birdie the 18th and final hole Saturday.

"It''s a great finishing hole from a spectator's point of view," Fisher told the BBC. "When I hit my drive I was just thinking 'please carry the water, carry the water' and you could probably see the huge relief."
