Man who killed at 11 charged with drugs

PONTIAC, Mich., July 24 (UPI) -- A young Michigan man who was convicted at the age of 11 of second-degree murder faces a felony drug charge.

At a hearing Wednesday, a judge in Pontiac refused to dismiss the charges against Nathaniel Abraham.

A Pontiac police officer described seeing Abraham exchange something with another man at a gas station in May, saying that it looked like "a street-level drug sale." Jason Teelander called for backup and officers found a bag containing 254 pills of Ecstasy in Abraham's trunk.

Teelander said he had no idea he was watching the person who had become known in 1997 as one of the youngest defendants ever convicted of murder. Abraham was sentenced to juvenile incarceration until the age of 21.

Abraham's lawyer, Byron Pitts, argued officers had no probable cause to search the car. He said what Teelander saw was simply two men shaking hands.

Abraham is free on bail, although required to wear an electronic monitor and to remain at home except for school or church.
